- Let me just say that this service you
guys offer is by far the best I've used for booking Japanese
accommodation. I was previously using sites like asiarooms.com (they have
a really good booking interface that makes it easy to request different
room types and extra beds etc) but they insisted on blocking my credit
card for the full amounts before making an enquiry, and were quite slow.
Taking 5 working days before the funds became available again, you can
imagine why I went looking for an alternative.
Your service on the other hand is transparent and QUICK which makes it

island.
Our vacation was much better than anticipated, and we had very high

Although it was only a 3-5 minute walk from the train station, which we

loading our luggage into the hotel car and driving us thirty seconds to

noted "full" with the above places)?

Dear John, Thanks for the
email.
The other agents you've been using are not in Japan. What they do is use a
GDS (Global Distribution System) like Apollo and Worldspan. I imagine the
reason they kept coming back full is that the hotels using the GDS system
only load up their rooms into the system 3-4 months in advance. When the
say they are full, it means that there are no rooms available in the
system. In your case it means that the hotel rooms haven't been entered
into the system yet. Many hotels only use these systems when they have
many rooms left unsold.
As we are in Japan, we deal directly with the hotel, and get a signed Fax
for each reservation. Also with the GDS systems the hotel has to pay a
much higher commission (usually 25%) to cover the GDS system and the
travel agent. As our commission is lower, hotels will often give us rooms
that are marked for direct sale to the customer.
Also many hotels in Japan are still not used to dealing with non-Japanese,
and the sites you visited do not have Japanese speaking staff. It is
easier for us as we are in Japan and talk directly to the hotel.
One more thing you need to be careful about. With these companies, you pay
at the time of reservation. If the company goes under then you lose your
money and your reservation as the hotel will not honor a reservation if
they haven't been paid. With our system, you pay directly to the hotel, so
even if we go out of business, you do not lose anything, and you
reservation is safe.

We very much enjoyed the Hotel Shin Osaka, conveniently located and a very
good value. We all enjoyed the good breakfasts and the employees
hospitality. Your other choice for us was the Comfort Hotel in Gifu. This
also was a good choice. Across the street from the RR station, it was
close to the castle, fashion district, and good food. Also had a good time
at the World's expo!
